VivaCell-MTS is the general sponsor of the “Golden Apricot” 7th Yerevan International Film Festival

Today at the Ministry of Culture a joint press conference was held presided by ROA Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, the Founding Director of the “Golden Apricot” Yerevan International Film Festival Harutyun Khachatryan, the Art Director of the festival Susanna Harutyunyan and the Program Director of the festival Mikayel Stamboltsyan.

During the press conference it was announced about the time of the “Golden Apricot” 7th Yerevan International Film Festival – July 11-18, 2010. Harutyun Khachatryan presented the program of the festival. The festival received 500 film applications from 75 countries, including Jordan, Nicaragua, Venezuela, and Costa Rica for the first time.

The 7th “Golden Apricot” will include a special Armenian. This year the festival will pay tribute to masters of Armenian cinematography Henrik Malyan, Khoren Abrahamyan, Mher Mkrtchyan and Albert Yavuryan by celebrating their jubilees.

“Cinema is a national treasure, which perpetuates the emotional memory of the past. With cinema our Nation stands equal among other cultural nations, and without cinema we are in the role of inferior. Sometimes we think that the world knows us and is aware of our problems. This is not always true. Today it is important to present our cinema art and through the latter to present our aspirations, our vision, our identity. For VivaCell-MTS the festival is more than just a cinematographic event, it is a cultural mark for our society, and that’s why we extend our full support to this unique event,” told VivaCell-MTS General Manager.

It is also planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the honorary chairman of the jury, movie director Atom Egoyan and the 90th anniversary of another movie director Henri Verneuil.

It is also planned to have a special program of Russian films dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

“Education has many means and tools: we as responsible citizens and businesses need to define those tools and work on channeling the best ideas to our community through it. Movies, more than any other tool, can relay morals and messages to our people with examples of life. All that should be done within the frame of ethics and values, as our society is our bigger family that we need to care for and respect,” stated Ralph Yirikian.
