VivaCell-MTS installed 143 new base stations across Armenia throughout 2013, by reaching a total of 1055

Throughout the year 2013 VivaCell-MTS implemented network geographical expansion and modernization works across Armenia. Armenia’s Leading Telecommunications Operator works towards adding new capacity to its network in order to match the need for more high-speed data and higher quality of voice in Yerevan and regions, as well as to address anticipated growth in data use expected in the upcoming years. And the modernized network will allow introducing new technological solutions required for providing the population with new innovative services and products.

In frames of network expansion and modernization project, during 2013 VivaCell-MTS installed 143 new base stations across Armenia. The majority of the newly-installed base stations (103) were installed in rural communities, with the remaining 40 base stations installed in towns. In parallel, previously-installed and already functioning 122 base stations provided with additional capacities and upgraded to 3G.

Presently, 87% of the population of Armenia, including capital Yerevan, and the regions of Shirak, Lori, Aragatsotn, Kotayk, Tavush, and Gegharkunik, can enjoy services at speed up to 42.2 Mbp/s. The networks also cover the towns of Ararat, Armavir, Vayots Dzor and Syunik. VivaCell-MTS has the strongest network, with its 2G and 3G coverage available to more than 99% of the population of Armenia.

When making decisions on installing new base stations, VivaCell-MTS is not guided by Return on Investment (ROI) consideration only. Continuous modernization of the network and capacity improvement is a priority for VivaCell-MTS as the availability of communication infrastructure is both a social and security issue. As a responsible operator, VivaCell-MTS is determined to provide with mobile voice and internet services even the most remote areas with small population and potential consumption of services.
