Viva is the Exclusive Partner of "AmCham Armenia at COP17: Connecting Businesses, Accelerating Sustainability"

21 October 2026

Viva is the exclusive partner for the three-day event, "AmCham Armenia at COP17: Connecting Businesses, Accelerating Sustainability," held within the framework of COP17.

A high-level opening session bringing together government, business, international organizations, and other key stakeholders to discuss how biodiversity can be integrated into Armenia’s economic development agenda.

The session will highlight the economic value of nature, identify opportunities for nature-positive growth, and set the stage for stronger public-private dialogue and cooperation.

At the opening ceremony, Viva’s General Director Armen Avetisian delivered a speech addressing the interconnection between a business’s environmental responsibility and its operational efficiency. He emphasized that these concepts do not conflict but rather complement each other, drawing upon Viva’s experience—developed over the years and proven effective in practice.

According to Mr. Avetisian, the conservation of biodiversity is directly linked to economic competitiveness, sustainable development, and the well-being of future generations. For Armenia—where natural ecosystems play a vital role in agriculture, tourism, and the development of local communities—this interconnection holds particular significance.

“We should not have to choose between economic development and the preservation of biodiversity. Our goal should be to shape an economy where the two complement each other. Achieving this requires a shift in business mindset. The most robust environmental commitment is not one that a company is obligated to undertake, but rather one that it consciously chooses to adopt as part of its own value system. We must embed environmental responsibility into our companies at an institutional level. And while certifications are important, they should reflect corporate values rather than serve as a substitute for them,” Armen Avetisian, Viva’s General Director, noted.

In addition to making social investments totaling over 28 billion AMD, Viva has also directed significant capital investments toward environmental technologies—specifically, the implementation of solar power supply systems for its base stations.

Solar photovoltaic systems have been installed at 64 base stations, generating over 2.7 million kWh of electricity and reducing reliance on the general power grid. As a result, the Company has saved more than 100 million AMD in operational costs and over 70,000 liters of diesel fuel. Carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions have been reduced by approximately 972 tons. For comparison, absorbing that same amount of carbon dioxide in a single year would require more than 97,000 trees.

Viva is open to share its experience and best practices with interested organizations, thereby contributing to the strengthening of a culture of environmental responsibility and the conservation of biodiversity in Armenia.

Throughout COP 17, a Viva stand will be hosted at the K. Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex, showcasing IoT devices that operate on a commercial NB-IoT network. Viva is showcasing the capabilities of the Internet of Things (IoT) for environmental protection, responsible resource management, and biodiversity conservation. At the Company’s exhibition stand, visitors can explore IoT devices, the IoT platform, and connectivity solutions that together help turn environmental data into a basis for timely decision-making.

Protecting nature requires identifying changes in a timely manner. Data on soil conditions, water consumption, and environmental conditions help assess situations more accurately, detect deviations, and take informed action.

“We are used to talking about connecting people. But today, technology also allows us to better understand what is happening around us: where water is being lost, how conditions for plant growth are changing, and when intervention is needed to prevent damage. Sensors alone do not protect nature — people do. Our task is to provide them with tools that help identify problems earlier and make more informed decisions. This is where we see the value of the Internet of Things in protecting nature and conserving biodiversity,” said the General Director of Viva.
